CLEAR (Clear Secure / Alclear)

CLEAR sells line-skipping at airport security in exchange for a paid, auto-renewing membership and your faceprint, fingerprints and iris scans. Its privacy policy says it does not sell biometric or sensitive data but may disclose other personal data to advertising partners in ways that 'may be considered a sale or share' under California law, and it shares data with TSA and 'partners' (including health partners where members opt in). Screening lapses drew government attention: a 2022 incident in which a person passed CLEAR under a false identity carrying ammunition, and 2023 incidents of unenrolled people escorted through, preceded August 2023 TSA guidance to increase TSA ID checks of CLEAR users (per Wikipedia). No data breach or privacy enforcement action against CLEAR was verified this pass.
