In August 2025, nine current and former students sued a Kansas school district (Gaggle was not a defendant), alleging that round-the-clock scanning of their files amounted to unconstitutional searches and violated the First Amendment. Student journalists there reported that Gaggle flagged artwork as child pornography, missed test messages about self-harm, gave administrators access to newsroom work before publication, and that some student files disappeared without warning. The district dropped Gaggle and moved to dismiss the suit as moot, but it adopted a competing tool that does the same kind of monitoring.
